Lanark County Victim Services
The Perth Police Service has a special relationship with a community based organization called Lanark County Victim Services. This community based organization assists police personnel in providing short term emotional support and practical assistance to victims of crime, tragic circumstance and disaster while connecting victims with other appropriate community services. Specially trained community volunteers are on call, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide crisis assistance to members of our community.
The general procedures for providing crisis services begins with the members of the Perth Police Service. The requesting officer identifies the appropriateness of making a referral to Victim Services once they have spoken with the victim. After the victim has provided consent, the requesting officer will notify the dispatch centre to initiate Lanark County Victim Services involvement.
The objective of the service is to lessen the trauma of being victimized; help the victim cope with the impact of the crime or tragic circumstance and encourage the victim to connect with other services that provice counselling, financial assistance, housing, compensation, and medical and legal services. Furthermore, it allows police officers to be available to attend to other crisis situations while giving officers accurate and comprehensive information about available community resources and services.
